Basically they ask you geography questions. And no one really gets eliminated during any of the rounds..if you get a question wrong they'll still ask you questions but whoever gets the most questions right moves on to the next round.
Here's how it works:
Everyone in each of the Social Studies classes competes in Round 1. Whoever wins in each class goes against the other people that won that are in their pod.
Round 2, Whoever wins the pod competes against 4 other 6th graders in the school.
Round 3, Whoever wins the grade competes against 1 7th and 1 8th grader in the school. Whoever wins the school has to take a written assessment. If you score in the top 100 in the state, you move onto Penn State and compete against the state.
Round 4, whoever wins the state moves onto Nationals on TV in Washington D.C.
Here are the prizes:
Win the school-Certificate and the written assessment for Penn State
Top 100 in State (from written assessment)-Go to Penn State and get a free shirt
Top 5 in State-Win $75 dollars (I think) and whoever wins the state gets a full, prepaid trip to Washington D.C. to compete in Nationals.
Top 5-10 in Nationals-Win $500
Top 4 in Nationals-Win $1,000.
Top 3 in Nationals-Win a $5,000 college scholarship.
Top 2 in Nationals-Win a $10,000 college scholarship.
Win Nationals-Get a $25,000 college scholarship, get a free lifetime membership to the National Geographic Museum and you and your family get a free, pre-paid trip to the Galapagos Islands.
I suck at Geography.
So far I only have 3/4 right, which is actually good FOR ME.
